Maybe you’re a dancer. Maybe you’re just the parent of one. Whatever the reason for your interest in dance clothing, here are just a few ways to make sure that you only buy the best!

 1. Buy the Right Dance Clothes

The best dancewear is the type that’s designed and marketed as such. These clothes are made specifically for dancers, so they’ll be breathable, flexible and durable enough for high amounts of activity. General activewear for women may or may not offer the same benefits, so be sure to double-check that you’re shopping from the right retailers.

 2. Mind your Budget

Don’t be afraid to spend a little extra on high-quality dancewear that will last through an entire production of The Nutcracker. If you try to cut corners with cheap, flimsy discount dancewear, it’s likely to rip due to all of your physical exertion; then you’ll have to replace it and spend more money anyway. Go ahead and splurge on the good stuff.

 3. Ask About Clothing Requirements

If you’re enrolling your child in a dance academy for kids, they probably have some sort of dress code for incoming students. It might be as simple as wearing a certain colour or covering a certain amount of skin; it might be as complicated as ordering custom-made dancewear that bears the academy’s name and logo. You’ll never know until you ask.

 4. Think About Convenience

It doesn’t really matter what your practice leotard looks like, but if you’re shopping for dancewear that will be incorporated into costumes or worn under costumes, it’s important to think about the convenience of the item. Can it be quickly laced and unlaced? Will the zippers get stuck during a quick change backstage? Is it too hot and heavy to wear with layers?

 5. Check the Material Type

No one wants to dance or exercise in cheap polyester discount dancewear that’s going to cling to their skin when they start sweating! Look for lightweight clothing made of cotton, mesh and even bamboo pulp. Pay attention to anything that promises to wick away moisture. If you’re female, make sure that it offers good support for your body type as well.

 6. Don’t Forget the Accessories

It’s easy to get so consumed with your purchases of hoodies and leggings that you forget about things like legwarmers. However, accessories can make all of the difference in your comfort level as you dance. Try to think about your entire body when you go shopping for dance clothes; this way, you won’t forget to buy a warm beanie for a cold dance studio.

These are just a few things to keep in mind as you look for your new dancewear, browse the net and check out specialised sites as dancewear Canada, for instance, to get ideas on styles and materials.

Now, grab your ballet flats and get to shopping!
