It’s not easy to beat acne. Just when you thought you have the perfect solution, you wake up with more zits that are bigger, redder and angrier than last time. And they seem to know exactly where to grow.
You see, the problem with acne-prone skin is that treating those pimples by making the inflammation subside won’t help you achieve a completely clear skin. To get rid of acne, you have to eliminate the root cause of your breakouts.
What is the cause of acne? Unfortunately, this is where things start to get complicated. There are tons of things that can cause acne. Some of these causes are really obvious while the majority of them can just sneak up on you.
The clothes you wear to the gym are great examples. The more sweat and dirt that gets trapped in between those clothes and your skin, the more likely your skin will break out. And if you let your sweat sit on your skin for a long time, it can harbour bacteria. This can make your pores more prone to getting irritated and inflamed.
The best Skin Care for Acne
Learning how to cleanse your skin is probably the most important and effective approach to get rid of your acne. Now, if you think just cleansing your skin will solve the problem- it’s not easy as that. Washing your face with the wrong products can also trigger acne.
Fragrance, alcohol and artificial dyes can irritate the skin and initiate an inflammatory response. In cleansing your skin, make sure you are using a product that’s specially formulated for your skin type. Choose one with acne-fighting ingredients that aren’t too harsh on your skin.
Moisturizing is something you shouldn’t miss if you have acne-prone skin. When your skin is dry and dehydrated, it’s forced to produce more oil than necessary. This can happen when you get exposed to cold temperatures or when you’re travelling. Even blasting the AC in the office can leave your skin dry and taut.
In addition to your environment, your diet can greatly affect the way your skin behaves, too. The food you eat and don’t eat can be major acne triggers.
Foods that trigger Acne
• Take, for example, sugar… Eating too many sweet foods can initiate an inflammatory reaction in your body and this translates to ugly pimples under the skin. The same thing happens when you eat food that has dairy in it.
• Cow’s milk is one good example… It can cause a spike in your blood sugar level, increasing inflammation which can lead to pimples. It also has an effect on your insulin level. As the milk increases your insulin, the more sebum your skin produces. Cow’s milk is believed to contain high amounts of hormones as well. These hormones can interact with your own natural hormones, disrupting your body’s balance.
• Junk foods and fast foods… Eating junk foods and fast foods can also trigger inflammation in your body. Most of these foods are cooked in unhealthy fats that won’t only ruin your skin but negatively affect your overall health, too.
