How To Sleep Through Night Soundly
Useful Tips On A Good Night’s Sleep
A good night’s sleep is crucial to our health and wellbeing. A lack of sleep can affect our mood and temper and even result in serious health issues later down the line (including heart attack, diabetes and stroke). When we lead such busy lives it’s important to be able to get the rest we need, in order to be as happy and productive as possible. Here are a few tips on how to sleep through night soundly.
Get into a good sleep routine
Go to bed and wake up at roughly the same time each day. It might be tempting to stay up an extra hour to catch the end of a film, or go on a night out after work and come home late- but this kind of thing does have serious consequences on your sleep. Get into a good sleep routine, where you’re going to bed early enough to get at least seven or eight hours.
Invest in a good quality bed
As humans, we spend an absurd amount of time sleeping, something to the tune of a third of our lives. And so when we need to spend so much time in bed, it’s always worth investing in a good one. A sturdy frame, soft sheets and a duvet and pillows that are regularly repurchased (a buildup of dust mites can set off allergies and reduce the quality of sleep). Most important of all is a good mattress which supports your body fully to prevent pain and stiffness. Visit a store like Mattress Xpress, and try out a range of different materials and firmness levels to find one that’s perfect for you.
Keep it quiet, dark and cool
A quiet and peaceful room is vital to get a good night’s sleep. Banish noisy pets from the bedroom at night, and if you have noisy neighbours or your bed partner is a sleeping snorer invest in a pair of ear plugs. Since light is one of the most powerful cues to the body to wake up, keeping the room very dark will allow you to sleep better and stop you from being woken up too early.
Go for thick blackout window blinds which will keep out the light and keep the room shaded from the sun. In order to drift off to sleep, our body has to drop in temperature. This is why it’s so much easier to drift off in a cool room, and why on warm summer nights you can spend hours tossing and turning to no avail. The temperature should be cool (not cold) which will allow you to sleep the most peacefully.
Use aroma essential oils
Calming aroma essential oils such as lavender allow the body to relax and make you feel more peaceful. You could try adding a few drops to your bath or get these cute sachets filled with herbs and misted with aroma essential oils. Alternatively, you could add a few drops to your pillow or even buy a ‘sleep spray’ made of aroma essential oils which can be misted onto your pillow and bedding before climbing in.

I am typically really good when it comes to sleeping! Very rarely do I experience sleep interruptions 🙂 I think it had something to do with all the activity I get in every day!
This might kind of weird but I use a sleeping sound (mostly Italian love songs) just to help me sound asleep. It works!
I love using essential oils for a calming night’s sleep.
I love a dark dark room. Blackout blinds are the best!
I’m pretty compliant with all your suggestions except using aromatherapy/essential oils. The idea of settling in to the scent of lavender on my pillow sounds delightful–gotta give it a try! I’ve also learned that more than a glass of wine at dinner will disrupt my sleep. Damn.
Hahaha Roxanne , yes I heard so as well , alcohol is not beneficial for a relaxing good night’s sleep , although drinking red wine always gets me tired. The lavender sachets or essential oils are very good and so nice smelling. Reminds me of my grandma 🙂 Thank you very much for your lovely comment!
