New Year New You Challenge
Spring Clean your Life for 2018
We all see the start of a fresh year as an opportunity to revamp ourselves, but the truth is that it’s easier said than done. Here are some tips on how to enjoy a happy and healthy 2018.
• Clean Out Your Home
If you’re feeling dissatisfied with the amount of clutter in your home, then it’s time to make a change. Go through each room with three bags – one for items that you want to keep, one for items that you want to trash, and one for items that you want to donate. Look for professional garbage removal companies for the trash that you don’t want to donate.
Marie Kondo website advises keeping only the objects that really spark joy for you. Although obviously a lot of the more practical objects in your household aren’t like to spark joy – hooray, washing up gloves! Whoopee, toilet brush! You should definitely take that advice with ornaments and decorations. If you don’t love it, it has to go.
• Clean Out Your Lifestyle
After Christmas, a lot of us will feel unfit, heavy and bloated after all the delicious Christmas food and a distinct lack of exercise over the holidays. Use January as a chance to detox, and then make sure that you turn it into a lifestyle instead of just doing it for a month.
Start doing daily easy yoga exercises like Yoga with Adriene, or sign up to attend Zumba classes. Make concrete changes to your diet, like committing to eating your five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, or eating leafy greens every night with dinner, or preparing a salad for your lunch every day instead of buying an expensive, unhealthy sandwich. Make sure that whatever you do, it isn’t a fad, and remember that the key to diet success is to eat everything in moderation.
• Clean Out Your Wardrobe
Use the next year as an opportunity to make sure that your wardrobe’s no longer held down by the dead weight of clothes you no longer wear. If you’ve gained weight, it’s time to accept that – buy clothes that fit you and that suit you and that you feel good in, instead of telling yourself that you’ll fit into your old ones again.
Donate the clothes that you don’t remember wearing recently, and if your underwear and socks are in a poor condition it’s time to invest in new ones. If you don’t know which clothes to give away, turn the hanger the other way when you’ve worn something. By the end of the year, you’ll be able to see what you no longer wear, and you can donate accordingly.
• Clean Out Your Negative Thoughts
Make 2018 the year of being kind to yourself. Treat yourself as you would any friend – don’t put yourself down, don’t refuse compliments, and don’t use negative language about yourself. Tell yourself that you can do whatever you set your mind to and that you will. Make sure that you say yes to all the opportunities you can, instead of no – you’ll discover a whole new part of yourself that you never even knew existed before.
Here’s to a happy and healthy 2018!

This is such a beautifully post.
Thank you so much, Dealman!
We’ve had a very sudden move announced so I’m about to do some serious decluttering over the course of January! Family of five, making memories in a home has made for an insurmountable amount of STUFF! But of course purging during a move is twice to three times the work. Blah.
I’ll worry about better eating when I get there. 😉
